A Big Mistake: Planning the ceremony last

Before you put down deposits and set a date, you want to make sure that all pieces of the wedding will work, including the most important part, the ceremony. Make sure that the officiate will be available for the date that you have in mind. There is no sense reserving a space if your officiate won’t be able to make it. Also, if you are planning to have the ceremony at a location different than the reception, make sure that both spaces are open for the date you are considering.

Not involving your future spouse

Times have changed and it is no longer the status quo for the bride to be the sole decision maker in the wedding planning process. After all, both you and your fiance will be attending the wedding and be embarking on a huge step together towards a lifetime of happiness. You want to make sure that their opinions are heard. Let them make decisions, choose some of the music, and be allowed equal input on the planning process. Maybe set aside time each week to talk about the wedding and what needs to be done.

Brook and Dan had a picturesque wedding high atop the Blue Ridge at the Cliffs at Glassy Chapel. We began with beautiful wedding party shots at the clubhouse for the Cliffs at Glassy.  After a tearful wedding at the Cliffs Chapel, we went outside for pictures in the wind, her veil was quite unruly!  We ended the night at the Cliffs Valley country club where the happy couple danced the night away.

Not considering the weather

The weather plays a crucial role on many wedding planning decisions. This can be from the types of flowers that are in season, the temperature outside and how that could affect your dress selection, and also, if rain could influence your ceremony or reception. Taking the season, time of day, and temperature into account is the easy part. The rain really can put a damper on plans. If you plan to have an outdoor ceremony, reception, or take pictures outside, you need to have a back up plan in place in the event that it rains on your big day.

Trying to please everyone

Everyone involved in your wedding will seem to have an opinion about what is the RIGHT way to do something. If you try to make everyone happy, you will become exhausted, burned out, and ultimately end up with a wedding that does not express who you are or what you value. It can be hard to say no to some people, like your mother, though. So, choose your battles. Know what parts of the wedding are worth fighting for and sticking to. If there are some details that are not as important with you, try to find a good compromise. You must remember that this is your special day and you are the one that needs to be happy.

If you have caught yourself making some of these mistakes, don’t worry. Everything can be fixed and you can learn from them going forward. Some brides won’t make any mistakes at all and that’s great! You always want to be looking for ways to improve how your wedding is planned. If anything, it is good to know these blunders so you can pass on some great wedding planning advice to friends, family, or possibly future children. The most important thing to remember though is that no matter what, this day celebrates the day that you join the love of your life in a bond that will last for many, many happy years. That will make all the mistakes and joys worth it!

Hopes bridal was a beautiful day at the Cliffs of Glassy Chapel.  Her mom was there to enjoy the day with her. The proposal which was done with a romantic diamond carving in a pumpkin (that she brought with her to the bridal), was a fun and unique photo opportunity on a truly beautiful mountain top afternoon.
